This is a cultural festival involving music, dance, gastronomy and handicrafts.<\/p>\n

Some history and meaning <\/strong><\/p>\n

Huey Atlixcayotl<\/em>\u00a0 are words of Nahuatl origin meaning “Great Atlixco Fiesta”, and it can rightfully be called so as it gathers the eleven ethnographical regions of the state of Puebla in an unparalleled event.<\/p>\n

Celebration started becoming a tradition since 1965 but it was in 1996 that the festival was named State Cultural Heritage by the State Government, thus giving it an added value thanks to its cultural importance and value.<\/p>\n

Although the most important event takes place the last Saturday of September, celebration starts a week before with the arrival of all the ethnics from all over the state.<\/p>\n

One of the most highly-anticipated activities in the program is the election of the “Xochicihuatl” and her “Xochipilme” (Flower Woman and Little Flowers), a pageant grading not physical beauty but a series of features such as the most authentic dress and the explanation of their community traditions.<\/p>\n
