    Hotelito Desconocido: A real sanctuary!

My trip started in Puerto Vallarta taking the hideaway 200, just one and a half hour to arrive to Playón de Mismaloya in the town of La Cruz de Loreto. When you arrive at the Hotel you start feeling in another world; wooden fences and lots of tropical vegetation.

Arriving to the entrance of the hotel the staff welcomes you and indicates you the way to the front desk. You keep going inside the property where vegetation covers more areas. Arriving to the front desk, José María, the General Manager received me as well as Irene, who is in charge of the reservations. They welcomed mie with a fresh towel with a very soft aroma that instantly relaxes you and start to forget the road. Part of the welcoming includes natural juice papaya, strawberry and mango; very refreshing.

The front desk is open with wooden floors that evoques a rustic place, a small living room where you can use the wireless internet. In the same area there is a wooden bar, with basic decoration and a very big table where they treasure the visitor’s book and the comments books, both of them made with recycling paper.

Next to the front desk they have a small boutique with basic products, art crafts, clothes and accessories from several places in the country, you will also find a common area with air conditioned, TV and DVD. (The only ones in the hotel)

The general view of the hotel is sand, vegetation and aquatic views; a true tropical Paradise. Walking toward the rooms one of the first places that you will find is the “Solecito” Spa, where the reception of it is an old Pharmacy! Just as you are imagining it, and old pharmacy of the 20’s, with restored wooden furniture and decorations of that time. In contrast you turn back the reception and you will find a magnificent hydrotherapy area with outdoor Jacuzzis, surrounded by vegetation and cabbins in small palapa shapes. The palpas have a décor of rustic paintings in the exterior walls. The area of sauna and steam has very modern equipments as well as the detail of their decorations.

The property offers three types of views from its palafitos: lagoon, lagoon – sea and sea. The names are based in the Mexican lottery, rooster, pot, bell, etc, and the rooms are decorated according to the card they are name after. All the rooms have King Size bed, some of them round shape =). They have one presidential suite that has the three views, its own pool and Jacuzzi, tower where one can enjoy the incredible view of the property; the bedroom is independent from the living room.

When getting to my room I was very pleased form the beginning, a palafito with a wide terrace with a couple of chairs, a service table and two hammocks, perfect to contemplate the tranquility of the place. While entering the palafito the first thing that you see is the bed, in my rooms case a round shape, and some meters above it a huge bell from which dome fabric descend to avoid mosquitos disturb at night. At the left side a small living room with a lecture table (you will also find a beach bag that is lent during your stay), a big couzy
sofa, behind the bed the closet and next to it two sinks with a big mirror at their back also decorated with bells. Tepezcohuite soaps that leaves your skin very smooth. At the right side of the bed a big marble bad tub and a small wall that covers the shower, which is open (no roof), it is covered on the lagoon side by a wall and covered with some vegetation on the terrace side. The shower is spa type, they are four big flat disks that let water come out with strong pressure just like at a spa, an incredible experience and amenities that
helps enhancing it with rosemary, tangerine and lime aromas. A great detail in the decoration is that the pipes are exposed 😉 very industrial. In the room there is no electricity, they only have with a couple of sockets to charge your gears, so you will see lots of candles all around.

On the lagoon side there is a restaurant named “Diablito”, where breakfast and dinner is served. To get to the beach, pool, beach palafitos and restaurant you need to cross the lagoon in a small boat (22); there is always someone attentive to make the transportation. Once that you are on the beach side the first that you see is the “El Nopalito” restaurant  where you can enjoy lunch or order form the pool.

After the trip and the tour I decided that the first thing will be to have lunch, my choice crab stuffed avocado, tampiqueña beef and corn pay with thyme ice cream (great pairing), the hotel Works with a plan that includes meals and non alcoholic beverages, we recommend you to take this option. And now the time has arrive, let’s enjoy the pool of sea water, the pool is heated and has its own jacuzzi, from there you have an spectacular view to the beach and inside the pool there is a colorful spread of hammocks.

Then to relax some time at the room and getting ready for dinner, as it is getting dark the housekeeping comes to the room to light up the candles, the place gets magical and very romantic.

I went to Diablito to have dinner and it was very surprising to see de décor, they have several tables near the lagoon and at the back there is an oldfashion bar form the 20´s with furniture and china from the time. Miguel our waiter was telling stories about the hotel and the changes that had during this remodeling. The chef was very nice and suggest a special menu which was incredible. Starting with some parmesan mussels, followed by deer carpaccio and as a main course lobster (so finally prepared that every bite melted on your mouth), accompanied with a White wine glass, and for dessert a sweet tamal. You can also ask at the time if breakfast should be delivered at your room.

The sky is so clear that you can see all the stars, very few places nowadays offer that possibility, the immensity of the night covers you and this place, silence and peace. When getting to the room they have done the turn down service with a beautiful arrangement made of a palm filled with chocolates and cookies.
Next morning it was great to open the gate of the room to discover the coffee service waiting for me (with café de olla), while I watch the bird flying.

I decided to take breakfast at Diablito, benedectin eggs with carrot juice. The best thing you can do afterwards to say good bye to Hotelito Desconocido is to enjoy the pool and the hammocks.

Coming out from the hotel, José María and Irene went to say goodbye and they offered me bottled water for the road and they also surprised me delivering my car just washed, =).

The best way to describe it is as the encounter of two worlds one where you can feel like in a desert island, with the style and comfort of XXII century, ideal for honeymoons, proposals or romantic escapes.
